Coventry Cycle Speedway complete 2016 Elite League line-up

Coventry Editorial 1st Mar, 2016 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016   0

COVENTRY have completed their line-up for the 2016 Elite League season with the signings of Polish internationals Prezemek Binkowski and Pawel Idziorek as well as British veteran Gavin Parr.

Team manager Lee Marsh this week closed in on three new signings as Coventry prepare for their first season in the top flight.

Now into his thirties, the robust Binkowski re-joins Coventry after a ten-year gap from Torun, in Poland, and he is known as one of the toughest riders in the sport.

He has a daunting physical presence and is a renown team rider, who often is happy to tactically race for his team, rather than for individual glory although he has shown his individual credentials by earning a podium finish at the 2014 European Individual Final.

Due to his Polish Army career and appearances in the Polish League for his home team club, Binkowski is likely to be a squad member for Coventry but Idziorek is set to be one of the mainstays in a new-look Coventry team.

The quick starting Pole has been in the UK for over five years and he has a proven track record in Northern League racing.

Idziorek has made frequent appearances for Sheffield in the Elite Leaugue and his neat, compact and all-round ability has made him a free scoring rider on all tracks.

Coventry`s third and final signing is British Veteran champion Parr who returned to cycle speedway four years ago with Northumbria after two decades away from the sport.

“With our own existing Elite league standard riders, we have brought fantastic talent to the club with all our new winter signings,” said Coventry boss,” said Coventry boss Lee Marsh.

“We will also be very keen to give all our home grown youngsters a chance. Local teenagers like Dan Drewett, Kyle Roberts and Mason Phillips will be uppermost in my thinking from the off, whilst I am sure Ollie Morris, Matt Hambridge, Spencer Sawbridge and Josh Marsh will also get their chance as the season unfolds.”

Preparations for the new season begin with a fixture against Norwich at Hearsall Common this Sunday (2pm) and the reverse fixture takes place on March 13.
