HOCKEY: A LATE goal saw Coventry & North Warwickshire earn a point away at Boots on Saturday in what was a much improved performance compared to the reverse fixture earlier in the season.
Coventry conceded ten goals the last time the two sides met, but this time around they played their part in what was an entertaining 2-2 draw in the Midland League Division Two, despite having to play with nine players in the final ten minutes.
The Nottingham team was threatening to take over at the top of the table, but Coventry were in a rich vein of form when coming into the match.
Several short corners from Boots were comfortably defended in the early stages but on the half-hour mark a disputed penalty was awarded to the hosts. Although Aidan Johnson got his stick to a corner bound shot, he could not keep it out.
Coventry went into the break one goal down by Waqas Akbar was testing the Boots defence with some teasing aerials.
At the other end the Coventry defence stood firm with Liam O’Keefe giving away no ground and Luke Reynolds was working hard to close down.
Boots almost doubled their lead but struck the post before it was Dom Bell’s turn to deliver when he converted from a Sam Clarke short corner.
Matt Leatherdale ran unchallenged half the length of the pitch only to have his shot well stopped by the keeper but Bell was again on target from another corner to give Coventry a 2-1 lead.
Ten minutes remained but some zealous umpiring deprived Coventry of two players and Boots took advantage with the equaliser.
