THE WAIT for a first league win this season has finally come to an end for Coventry & North Warwickshire after they beat Halesowens 3-1 in the Midland League Division One on Saturday.
It took until the last ten minutes but Coventry deservedly beat their third-placed opponents to move off the bottom of the table.
An early goal from a Halesowen breakaway suggested a different outcome but thereafter it was mostly one way traffic with the visiting goalkeeper saving well from several goal-bound efforts.
Dom Bell fired over the bar from a corner and then drew two good saves to keep the visitors ahead.
At another corner the ball was deflected over the bar but despite all these efforts and good defensive work by Ben Clarke, James Gunn and Jonny Leong the teams turned round with a slender one goal lead for the Team from Halesowen.
Two corners won by Ed Benfield and then Austin Pritchard were well saved but with 20 minutes remaining Bell was able to evade the keeper with a well struck reverse stick shot.
Pritchard received a yellow card but as soon as he got back on he delivered a high reverse stick shot which was brilliantly steered in above shoulder height by an alert James Thysse.
And the win was wrapped up by Ajan Reginald who received a Benfield pass with the goal unattended to complete a good afternoon’s work for Coventry.
