COVENTRY Sphinx consolidated fourth place in the Midland League Premier Division with a 1-1 draw at early pacesetters Westfields.

After a goalless first 45, it was the Herfordshire hosts who opened the scoring five minutes into the second period through ex-Hereford ace Jamie Molyneux.

But Sphinx drew level just past the hour mark when Lewis Hudson was on hand to tap home the rebound from Ryan Harkin’s shot.

With no league game this weekend, Sphinx are back in action on Tuesday night when they entertain Leicester Road in the League Cup.

COVENTRY United came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Atherstone Town and a place in the first round proper of the FA Vase.

Jonathan Gould had gave the visitors the lead after just three minutes and it took until the 52nd minute for Coventry to draw level through Kyle Carey.

Carey struck again five minutes later to bag the decisive goal to set up a home tie against Wednesfield on Saturday, October 13.

Coventry return to Midland League Premier Division action on Saturday when they visit Walsall Wood.

GNP SPORTS booked their place in the next round of the Presidents Cup after edging out Boldmere Sport & Social Falcons 4-3.

Two goals from Dildale Linton and one each from Liam Rock and Tom Rawlings were enough to secure the victory for Sports who will meet either Knowle or Bolehall Swifts in the next round.

GNP, who were due to play Woodlands WMC in the Coventry Evening Telegraph Cup last night (Wednesday), play host to Earlswood Town in Midland League Division Two on Saturday.

COVENTRY Alvis enjoyed back-to-back wins in Midland League Division Two as they edged out full-time Moors Academy 3-2.

Frankie Evans, Ryan Murphy and Stephen McKenna put Alvis 3-0 up before late goals from Nathan Binner and Shuja Mahmood set up a tense finale.

Moors’ Jordan Clarke received a straight red card in the third minute of stoppage time to end any hopes of a comeback for the visitors.

Alvis entertain FC Stratford on Saturday.
