FOOTBALL: COVENTRY United were held to a goalless draw at home to relegation threatened Loughborough University in the Midland League Premier Division on Easter Monday.
Confidence in the Coventry camp was high after beating Tividale 2-0 two days earlier but it was the visitors who looked the more likely of the two sides to score in the opening 45 minutes.
Matthew Crookes was unlucky to see his head drop narrowly wide of the target in the sixth minute and soon after Tommy Glasscoe produced a goal line clearance to deny Daniel Brenan.
The home side returned from the break with renewed purpose following what must have been a meaningful team talk by manager Terry Anderson.
Josh O’Grady sent a free kick over the bar while at the other end Richard Morris produced a fine save to keep out Ben Ward’s effort on goal.
United’s Lewis Ison was unlucky top see his looping header drop just over the bar on the hour mark and Jamie Coleman was lucky to see Matthew Crookes shoot wide after his mistake put the Loughborough player through on goal in the 73rd minute.
After that scare United soon regrouped and got back to looking for a breakthrough of their own. With nine minutes remaining Robert Prinzel shot wide and two minutes later Lewis Ison sent a header just over the bar.
Coventry had the best chance of the match late on when Ison again came close with a header with dropped just wide of the post again two minutes from time.
