COVENTRY Road Club will hold the 70th edition of the annual Boxing Day Cyclo-cross Race on Kenilworth Common.
The event is the longest-running cyclo-cross race in the United Kingdom and has become a staple of the festive season.
This year’s race takes place on Thursday, December 26 with the event to begin at midday (12pm).
The first edition of the race took place in the early 1950s and attracts competitors and spectators from across the country.
Renowned for its exciting mix of terrains and challenges, the course offers riders the perfect opportunity to burn off the holiday indulgences and enjoy the spirit of community and competition.
The event is sponsored by local businesses EweMove Estate Agents and The Broom Wagon Cyclery.
EweMove owner, Matt Clinton said: “I first rode this event over 20 years ago and it’s become a regular fixture on my festive calendar. It’s great to be able to support its continued success into its 70th year.”
The Broom Wagon Cyclery owner, Andrew Gould added: “I have fond memories of coming to the Boxing Day cross as a child with my father.
“It became a family tradition, and an opportunity for him to see old cycling friends from his Coventry Olympic days. It’s fantastic to be able to help support such a great event into its 70th year.”
A road closure on Common Lane will be in place for the event. Motorists and residents are advised to plan for this in advance. Any disruption will be kept to a minimum.
Spectators are welcome to join and cheer on the competitors during the race.
