NICK Whitley secured two podium finishes on the national stage riding for Coventry-based Team Enable-MI Racing-Townsend Vehicle Hire.

The Team Enable rider finished third in the National Trophy Series and also took third in the British National Cyclo-Cross Championships.

Whitley had already guaranteed third place in the National Trophy standings ahead of the fifth and final round in Bradford.

And Whitley finished third in the final race of the Series to secure a well-earned place on the podium.

Despite testing positive for Covid following his National Trophy Series success, Whitley returned to action in the 50 to 59 age category race at the British National Cyclo-Cross championships in Kent.

Whitley spent most of the race in second place, despite having six days off the bike since his third place finish in the National Trophy Series.

However, he had to settle for third once again, as the leaders pulled away, to secure another podium finish despite suffering from an illness.

Team Enable rider Layla Bradbrook also took part in the women’s Championship race and placed 28th overall and 14th in the under-23 age category.

Elsewhere, a waterlogged course in Walsall brought an early end to the West Midlands Cyclo-Cross League season.

Despite both missing a couple of rounds each, Team Enable riders Whitley and Darren Atkins finished in second and third place overall in the veteran 50 to 59 age category.

In the same category, Nick Popham finished 29th after taking a break from racing in the latter rounds while Christian Morgan placed 39th after also missing the last few rounds.

Coventry-based rider Andy Jackson finished 52nd with his season cut short due to medical issues with Alan Buxcey 71st despite riding less than half the season.

And Lynsey Whitley finished third in the veteran women’s age category and ninth in the league overall.

In the junior league, Jefferson Tear-Verweij finished ninth overall after missing a number of rounds through illness.

And in the senior league, Warwick-based rider Tom Bradley just missed out on a top-10 finish after placing 11th in only his second season of racing.

In the veteran 40 to 49 age category, Colin Miller finished on the podium in third place while Mark Garrett ended up sixth in the veteran 60 to 69 age category with Pete Busby 40th after riding in just four rounds.

And in the Leicester Cyclo-Cross League, Popham finished second in the veteran 50 to 59 age category race while Coventry-based Busby won the veteran 60-plus race.
