NICK Popham claimed race victories in both the Notts and Derby Cyclo-Cross League and West Midlands Cyclo-Cross League.
Popham, racing for Coventry-based Team Enable, won the Notts and Dervy League 50-plus vets category race in freezing conditions, holding off former world champion Simon Hale to secure the race win.
And Popham also beat all of the 40-plus category riders to win the race outright with Team Enable’s Geoff Giddings further back in 17th place.
In the West Midlands League race, Popham once again triumphed in the 50-plus vets category despite dropping a few places at the start.
Popham came roaring back to take the win ahead of teammates Darren Atkins in second place and Nick Whitley in third place.
And in the 60-plus category, Phil Roach came second and Pete Busby third in another impressive showing from the Coventry team.
In the women’s race, Lynsey Whitley finished 19th overall and seventh in the 40 to 49-years-old category.
And in the men’s vets 40 to 49-years-old category, Ryan Henry placed fifth with Colin Miller sixth while Tom Bradley was 15th in the men’s senior category.
Elsewhere, Oliver Searle enjoyed a superb ride to win the Coalville Wheelers hill climb event, held on the Polly Botts climb.
In a field of 36 riders, Searle smashed his personal best (PB) time on the climb to take the win by 17 seconds from the second-placed rider.
