ROY Hunt claimed a fourth age category championship jersey riding for Team Enable at the British National Mountain Bike Championships.
Hunt, cycling for Coventry-based Team Enable-MI Racing-Townsend Vehicle Hire, won the national championship jersey in the 70-plus age category in Dalby Forest, North Yorkshire.
His success means he has now claimed national championship jersey’s in the 40, 50, 60 and 70-year-old categories.
Hunt passionately campaigned with former team boss Mick Ives, before the latter’s passing, for British Cycling to award a national title in the 70-plus age category.
Elsewhere, Team Enable riders Nick Popham, Lindsay Newman and Ryan Henry continue to dominate the Friday Night Summer Mountain Bike series.
Coventry-based rider Pete Busby joined the party by winning the super grand veteran race in round 11 with just three rounds remaining to decide the series winners.
On the road, Nick Whitley raced in the UCI Gran Fondo in the Isle of Man, competing in the 50 to 54 age category, and finished 39th overall and seventh in his age category.
The tough 137km course including 2,300m of ascent and Whitley has secured his place at the prestigious 2024 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships which take place in Aalborg, Denmark at the end of August.
In the recent British Masters Time Trial Championships, four Team Enables riders tested themselves on the undulating 30km course against some of the best veteran age group riders in the country.
Held near Ashby-de-la-Zouch in Leicestershire, the race was restricted to standard road bikes only for the first time.
However, despite this limitation, Team Enable rider Mike Allen won the national title in the H age group category for riders aged between 75 to 79-years-old.
Allen clocked a superb time of 55 minutes and 57 seconds, Leamington-based Mark Wise just missed out on a podium place by finishing fourth in the 55 to 59 age category.
Rugby-based Zoe Shepherd finished eighth in the women’s race in a time of 57 mins and 13 secs while Greg Ashley finished 16th in the 55 to 59 age category.
Diana Warburton-Egerton showed her class in the RTTC National 25-mile Time Trial Championship held in Cheshire.
In almost perfect conditions, Egerton-Warburton raced in the 45 to 49 age category and finished in a time of 1 hour and 47 secs to win the national title by more than three minutes from the second placed rider.
In the same event, teammate Zoe Shepherd finished in fourth place in the 40 to 44 age category.
Elsewhere, David Mead claimed another victory in the Rugby Racing Cycle Club open 10-mile time trial held on the A45 between Rugby and Coventry.
Mead was one of only two riders who finished in less than 20 minutes, crossing the line in a winning time of 19 mins 33 secs.
And Egerton-Warburton produced another dominant performance to win the women’s race in a time of 23 mins 6 secs to finish 19th overall on the day and beat the second placed women’s rider by more than two minutes.
Teammate Simon Law finished sixth overall while Mark Wise managed a 14th place finish despite being forced to stop by police during the race for a traffic incident and Greg Ashley finished 24th.
The combined times of Mead, Law and Wise saw Team Enable MI Racing take the team award.
Lastly, the Mick Ives memorial ride will take place on Sunday, August 25.
The sportive ride includes a 10-mile family ride along with longer challenge and epic rides.
The event, organised by Coventry Olympic Group Sportive (COGS) will start and finish in the village of Baginton near Coventry.
Held in memory of Mick Ives, founder of the MI race team who passed away earlier this year, the event will raise funds for the Myton Hospice with all entry fees and proceeds to go towards the charity.
