CYCLING - Team Enable's Whitley impresses again in National Trophy Series

NICK Whitley continued his fine start to the British Cycling Cyclo-Cross National Trophy Series with a third-place finish in round two.

Racing for Coventry-based Team Enable – MI Racing – McCann, Whitley crossed the line in third place in the 50 to 59 years-old section in North Yorkshire.

And Team Enable’s Nick Popham also enjoyed an excellent ride in muddy conditions, finishing in sixth place after starting 45th on the grid.

Elsewhere, Team Enable took a clean sweep of podium finishes in round six of the West Midlands Cyclo-Cross League at the University of Worcester’s Lakeside Campus.

Darren Atkins claimed his first win of the season in the 50-years and above category while Popham placed second and Whitley came home third with Alan Buxey 71st and Andy Jackson 76th further back.

In the senior male category, Tom Bradley finished 15th while Colin Millar claimed an impressive second place finish in the 40 to 49-years age category, losing to the back wheel of the winner on the final lap.




And in the women’s race, Lynsey Whitley placed 21st overall and seventh in the 40 to 49-years-old age group.

Team Enable secured another one-two-three finish in round seven of the West Midlands Cyclo-Cross League at Baggeridge Country Park.


N Whitley returned to the top step of the podium, finishing one minute ahead of Popham with Atkins in third place some three minutes clear of the fourth-placed rider while Alan Buxey came home 41st to achieve his best result of the season.

Lastly, Miller crossed the line fourth and Bradley 12th in their respective categories while L Whitley secured a sixth-place finish in the women’s race.
