CYCLING - Team MI Racing rider rises to hill climb challenge

TEAM MI Racing’s hill climb specialist Tom Parsons achieved two top-10 finishes as he took on a couple of challenging races.

Parsons impressed riding for the Midlands-based team founded by Coventry cycling legend Mick Ives.

The Sheffield-based rider finished eighth in a time of one minute 25 seconds competing in a Sheffrec Cycling Club event.

He rode up the Monsal Head hill climb – a 600m-long climb up an 11 per cent gradient – and finished just four seconds behind the winner.

Parsons also set a new personal best (PB) time which saw him finish ahead of four-time national hill climb champion Andrew Feather.

He also rode in the Tickhill Velo event held on the Bill Lane hill climb in South Yorkshire as he finished in second place on the 520m-long climb.




Elsewhere, a number of Team MI Racing riders continued their respective cyclo-cross seasons by taking on the challenging Yorkshire Three Peaks Cyclo-Cross race,

The race takes place over a 38-mile distance and takes in over 5,000 feet of climbing

And MI Racing’s Alan Parsons, Holly Bradbrook and James Garrett all took on the challenge.


Riding in the event for the first time, Bradbrook finished in an impressive fourth place in the women’s under-23 category in a time of five hours 25 minutes.

Parsons, also racing in the event for the first time, finished 280th overall in five hrs eight mins.

Rugby-based Garrett produced the quickest time of the MI Racing riders as he finished in 81st place in a new PB time of three hrs 52 mins.

The first round of the Cyclo-Cross National Trophy also took place – the first event of a six-race series – at Moorways Leisure Centre in Derby.

The race also attracted hundreds of the best riders from across the United Kingdom.

In the men’s 50 to 59-years-old category, Nick Whitley finished in third place with Kenilworth-based teammate just behind in seventh and Nick Popham 31st.

And in the men’s 60 to 69-year-old category, Phil Roach finished 20th with Dave Garrett 43rd.
