RUGBY UNION: WASPS director of rugby Dai Young feels losing Kyle Eastmond will be a big loss after he was ruled out for the rest of the season through injury.
Centre Eastmond tore his achilles tendon during last Sunday’s game against Gloucester but is expected to be back in time for the start of the 2017/18 season.
The club confirmed that a routine surgery to repair Eastmond’s tendon went well, with no complications anticipated, but it will keep him sidelined for six months, which will unfortunately rule him out of the remainder of Wasps’ 2016/17 campaign
Young said: “It’s obviously really disappointing for Kyle that he will miss the rest of the season and I really feel for him, because it came at a time when he was really starting to find his feet in this side and get a good run of games under his belt.
“The good news is that the operation was as straightforward as it can be with this type of injury and that Kyle is expected to make a full recovery, hopefully being back ahead of the new season.
“Kyle will be a big loss for us as we go into this last part of the season, but we are lucky to have a very competitive group of backs and this will give other players the opportunity to step up, which they have consistently done as a group already this year.”
