DARTS - Warwickshire edge rivals Worcestershire in penultimate game of season

WARWICKSHIRE’s County Youth darts players secured a narrow 7-6 victory to beat local rivals Worcestershire in their penultimate fixture of the season.

Club captain Isobel Gash produced a confident performance to win the first game of the tie 3-0 with an 11.13 average.

And Kacie O’Connor sealed a win for Warwickshire in the ladies section as she triumphed 3-1 with checkouts of 66, 40 and 76 which included a 17-dart leg on her way to a 17.44 average.

However, Worcestershire registered their first point in the final ladies game as Krystal O’Connor was beaten 3-2 despite hitting a 17-dart leg with a 13.62 average.

In the under-18’s section, Mitch Richardson kicked things off with a 3-1 win against a strong opponent and finished with an impressive 18.96 average as he extended his unbeaten run to nine games.

And Harley Bennett took no time to seal a 3-1 win in his game with a professional performance and 17.79 average before Owen Quinn suffered a 3-2 defeat with an 18.12 average.




Next up was Kian, making his stage debut, who was relaxed and confident in defeat against his opponent who recorded the highest average of the section as the Warwickshire player finished with a 22.00 average.

Warwickshire clinched the under-18’s section courtesy of Ben Gamble’s comfortable 3-0 win who scored a man of the match 23.86 average as  the county took a 5-3 lead into the final section of the day – the under-21’s.


And Luke Morris sealed a 3-2 win in a last leg decider with a 21.25 average to move Warwickshire within one point of overall victory.

However, Worcestershire kept themselves in the contest with a 3-0 win against Campbell O’Hagan Cooper who averaged 16.65 despite throwing some steady darts.

And the deficit was reduced to a single point when Keelan Dockerty was beaten 3-1 by a confident Worcestershire debutant as the former finished with a 15.49 average.

Warwickshire secured overall victory in style as Harry Earp overcame dreaded dartitis to recover from two-nil down to complete a stunning 3-2 comeback victory against opponent Ben Liggins who supported Harry throughout.

Worcestershire picked up the final point of the game as Harry Franklin was beaten 3-0 with a 22.35 average as his opponent recorded the highest average of the day with a 25.91 effort.

In the reserve games, ladies team captain Rosie O’Connor was beaten 2-0 as she scored a 12.73 average in her first stage game for several months.

Next up was a battle between two Warwickshire players as Emmie O’Connor and Maya faced off with the latter taking a 2-1 victory in a close game.

In the boys’ reserve games, Charlie Moreton secured a 2-1 win whilst Sam Matthews hit scores of 140 and 134 and an impressive 119 checkout to secure a 2-0 victory with a 21.78 average.

Lastly, eight-year-old Alfie Dunn won his first reserve game of the season with a 2-0 success which included a 78 checkout on his way to a fine 11.51 average.
