DARTS - Warwickshire start year with emphatic win against Clwyd

WARWICKSHIRE County Youth darts players eased to an 11-2 win on the road at Clwyd as Paul Moreton’s side won all three sections.

The ladies were first up as Isobel Gash ensured Warwickshire made the perfect start with a 3-0 win against Summer Warburton.

Gash checked out 31 to win the first leg before starting the second leg with a 120 and won the remaining two legs with 40 and 26 finishes to end the game with a 13.79 average.

Clwyd levelled the section in the next game as England Ladies Youth Champion Amy Evans beat Warwick’s Emmie O’Connor 3-0 as the latter average 10.59 in a tough match.




However, Kacie O’Connor won the final match of the section 3-1 with an average of 12.06 and put up some big scores which included a 121, 140 and two hundred’s.

And the under-18’s picked up where the ladies left off as Charlie Moreton came from behind to beat Alex Bolders 3-2 in a thriller, checking out double four to seal victory with a 14.12 average.


This was followed by victory for Mitch Richardson who hit scores of 177, 139, 134 and 104 throughout the contest to finish with a 17.48 average.

Warwickshire clinched another section victory courtesy of Ben Gamble’s 3-2 success as he twice came from behind to take legs four and five which included two huge scores of 134 and 135 in the decider to finish with a 16.79 average.

And Sam Matthews eased to a 3-0 win with a 12.68 average in a confident performance before Harley Bennett won by the same scoreline with a 20.31 average to complete a section whitewash.

Bennett was playing his first stage game and showed no signs of nerves with several big scores which included almost hitting a 14-dart leg.

With the game sewn up, the under-21”s took to the stage with the pressure off as Harry Earp averaged 16.89 in a quick 3-0 win before Harry Franklin claimed victory by the same scoreline and averaged 20.31

Clwyd finally scored their second point of the match when Warwick’s Campbell O’Hagan Cooper suffered a 3-1 defeat in just his second stage game with an 18.02 average.

However, Warwickshire were back to their ruthless best in the next tie as Alfie Busby won 3-0 with a 20.31 average and Luke Morris secured a 3-0 win and 21.78 average.

Warwickshire’s reserve players also took to the oche with Thomas Heydon, Keelan Dockerty, Owen Quinn, Krystal O’Connor and Alfie Dunn all in action.

Dunn, aged eight, was beaten 2-0 despite an impressive 11.55 average whilst Heydon also lost 2-0 with an 11.00 average.

However, Dockerty posted a superb 19.26 average with scores of 125 and 119 and Quinn played even better darts to finish with a 22.77 average.

And Krystal excelled in her game to win 2-0 with an 11.26 average and showed her credentials with scores of 130, 90 and 87 during a dominant performance.

Warwickshire next take to the oche against Staffordshire on Sunday, February 19.
