IT was a busy weekend for Octavian Droobers Orienteering Club, after members took part in an urban race in Buckingham and in a unique ‘photo’ orienteering contest in Rugby.
Down south in Buckingham town centre and the surrounding park, Chris McCartney (42:38) won the men’s Vet 5.8km course, whilst Peter Carey (27:17) and Sheila Carey (28:19) raced to wins in the men’s Hyper Vet 3.2km and women’s Ultra Vet 3.2km courses respectively.
Making their club debuts in the UK Urban League event were Kin Wai Lee (42:43) of the M21 category, who was third in the men’s Open 6.7km race, and Ka Man Leung (51:15) in the W21 group, who was runner-up in the women’s Open 5.8km event.
Nadine Wright was the only other club representative in action in the urban race, finishing fourth in the aforementioned women’s Open in a time of 53:06.
In the photo orienteering event, in which competitors were required to identify the locations of 87 different photographs around Rugby town centre, a team led by Rob Smart completed the challenge first within the time allowance.
Anne Straube and Felix Lunn’s team were joint second, while Paul Gregson’s group finished in fourth place.
The club welcome orienteers young and old to the sport, with the next event held at Burton Dassett Country Park on Wednesday August 21.
