RUGBY UNION: ENGLAND’S hero in Cardiff on Saturday evening Elliot Daly has been hailed as having the ‘X-Factor’ by head coach Eddie Jones as England made it two wins out of two in this year’s Six Nations.
Wasps star Daly scored what proved to be the match winning try six minutes from time as England came from behind to beat rivals Wales 19-16 inside the Principality Stadium.
It was Daly’s second try for his country and England head coach Jones heaped special praise on on the Wasps star followed another impressive performance on the wing.
He said: “Elliot has got gas and a little bit of X factor about him. I don’t think wing is his best position but it suits us at the minute.
“I think we’ve used up all of our get out of jail cards, I thought it was a great game of Test rugby.”
Daly himself admits his dramatic late try remains a bit of a blur and feels his achievement has yet to sink in.
“We put a lot of emotional energy into that game and to come away with the win is a massive performance for us,” said Daly.
“Faz passed me the ball and I tried to run as fast as possible into the corner. I wasn’t thinking about it too much, it was a beautiful ball by Faz and I just pinned my ears back to get into that corner and luckily I did.”
England sit top of the pile having won their opening two matches and Saturday’s win extends their unbeaten run under head coach Eddie Jones to 16 matches.
Daly added: “We are in a good place, our next game is Italy and we want to prepare hard for that and put in a good performance.”
Next up for England is a home match against Italy at Twickenham on February 26.
