DYLAN CHEEMA insists he needs to bring his “A game” if he is to remain unbeaten ahead of his fight at BOXXER’s Breakthrough event in Coventry this weekend.
Cheema (5-0, 1 KO), from Tile Hill, sensationally won the BOXXER Series lightweight event in his home city back in April with a knockout and two hard-fought points victories.
And ‘The Natural’ returns to the Skydome Arena this weekend to face journeyman fighter Stu Greener (4-0-8, 1 KO) in his first bout since the BOXXER tournament propelled him from unknown underdog to stardom.
Cheema said: “The tournament propelled my career and put me on a pedestal, we’re on the stage now, I’ve just got to keep working hard.
“I learn a lot from that tournament, now it’s all about getting some new skills and tricks and working on some stuff again.
“I’m an experienced kickboxer, I’ve been through many different styles of fight before and that showed on the night of the tournament where I had to fight three different types of fight.
“People always say ‘you’re only fighting journeyman’ but this journeyman comes to win every fight – he gets a few losses but he gets a few wins as well.
“I need to be on my ‘A’ game otherwise there’s a chance that I could get beat.
“Enjoy the night because big-time boxing is back in the City again!”
The former two-weight world kickboxing champion is raring to go in his hometown and wants to further showcase his skills on Saturday night.
Cheema added: “Preparations have gone really well, we’ve had a quick turnaround from the tournament to now boxing again.
“It was the perfect time for me to get some rest and hit back in camp very hard again, it’s been a good camp and I’m ready to go.
“I’ve got a lot more in my arsenal, I’ve got a lot more to showcase as well and you’ll see that over the longer rounds.
“It’s that extra 10 per cent, I carry my faith with me everywhere I go, it gives me that extra bit of hunger to get in there and dig that little bit deeper.”
Cheema fights Greener on Saturday, June 25 at the Skydome Arena as part of BOXXER’s Breakthrough event and is due in the ring at around 7pm.
