FORMER England star and Manchester United winger Kieran Richardson is a target for Coventry City in their battle against relegation from League One, we can reveal.
Sky Blues boss Russell Slade has been pursuing the versatile 32-year-old winger, left-back and midfielder, who is currently a free agent after being released by Championship club Cardiff City in December.
He made just six appearances last year for the Welsh club under a short-term contract.
It is understood any potential signing is some way off, although club sources have confirmed there have been discussions between Coventry City and Richardson’s representatives.
He is not at Ryton training ground today. The players and staff have the day off after last night’s improved performance at AFC Wimbledon ended in a bitterly disappointing 1-1 due to the Dons’ last-minute stoppage-time equaliser.
Richardson has been capped eight times for England, scoring twice. He has also played for Sunderland, Fulham and Aston Villa in a glittering career which began in 2001.
The Coventry Observer revealed last week Slade was pursuing another striker and a midfielder with Premier League experience, in addition to ex-Premier League striker Yakubu – who signed for the Sky Blues on Monday and made his debut last night.
Former West Ham and England striker Carlton Cole has also been a Sky Blues target.
