ALLY McCoist would have taken Coventry City boss Frank Lampard as manager of his boyhood club Rangers before he became Sky Blues head coach.
The former footballer turned broadcaster heaped praise on Lampard and respects the job he has done since his appointment as Coventry boss.
McCoist, Rangers’ all-time leading goalscorer with 355 goals, won 10 Scottish Premier League titles with the Gers as a player.
And McCoist wanted Coventry boss Lampard to take charge at Rangers a while ago with the club without a league title since the 2020/21 campaign.
Speaking to talkSPORT Bet, McCoist said: “What a job Frank Lampard has done. And I’ve got to say, everybody, I think, should respect it and be pleased for him. He’s a good lad, he hasn’t done things all his own way.
“He’s had some tough times as a manager and a coach, of that there is no doubt. But boy has he done it. I told you, I would have taken him at Rangers way back. I would have taken Frank at Rangers a good while ago.
“Coventry City, they had the wobble, they did have the wobble, but boy have they sorted that out. The teams around them not having any real consistency, including Middlesbrough of late.
“Millwall have been remarkable, quite brilliant. Hull up there, Derby on the up, Southampton’s form is incredible.
“I just absolutely love the Championship, absolutely love it. Who’s going to go up second place? It’s up for grabs.”
