FOOTBALL - Brentford boss Keith Andrews explains Frank Onyeka's move to Coventry City

BRENTFORD head coach Keith Andrews admits a lack of game time ultimately led to Frank Onyeka completing a move to Coventry City.

The Sky Blues signed the midfielder on loan with an obligation to buy on transfer deadline day.

Onyeka will join Coventry on a permanent basis if the Sky Blues achieve promotion to the Premier League at the end of the season.

The Nigeria international made just six substitute appearances for the Bees in the Premier League this campaign.

And Andrews has no doubt Onyeka will impress for the Sky Blues and believes the midfielder deserves a chance to play at Coventry.

Andrews said: “He’s someone who has been a big part of our journey although he hasn’t had the minutes or game time that he would have liked.

“I feel it’s right that he goes on to pastures new because he’s a really good professional and a really good person.

“I wish him the best and I have no doubt that he will do really well.”

Onyeka helped Nigeria reach the semi-finals of this year’s AFCON where they lost to hosts Morocco on penalties.

He spent the 2024/25 campaign on loan at FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga.

The central midfielder made 75 appearances for Brentford in the Premier League across five seasons.
