FOOTBALL - Clinton Morrison singles out Tatsuhiro Sakamoto as Coventry City player with Premier League quality

SKY Sports pundit Clinton Morrison has backed Coventry City winger Tatsuhiro Sakamoto to make the step up to the Premier League with the Sky Blues.

Morrison spent two seasons with the Sky Blues in the Championship, scoring 23 goals in 101 appearances for Coventry.

And the former Republic of Ireland international turned pundit earmarked City’s Japanese winger Sakamoto as a player who he feels can make the step up to the Premier League should the Sky Blues achieve promotion this season.

Speaking exclusively to Freebets.com, the home of the best UK betting sites, Morrison said: “I think Sakamoto, the boy at Coventry can make that step up.

“Frank Lampard holds him in high regard and he has a number of qualities – close control, pace, and strong work ethic both on and off the ball.

“I think he can make that jump, but hopefully that can be with Coventry City.”

Morrison also believes Frank Lampard’s side will add to their squad in the January transfer window and feels a defender and central midfielder will be top of Coventry’s list.

Morrison added: “I can see Frank going to the chairman and saying he needs a couple of bodies to help freshen things up, and have some competition for places and hopefully get us over that line.

“I don’t think he’s brought in loads of players since he’s been there, so he could definitely add one or two.

“I can see him trying to strengthen across all areas of the pitch.

“I’d say he could do with another defender and someone in the middle of the park for some fresh legs and bring a new dimension to the team.”
