FOOTBALL - Coventry City add non-league club to academy grassroots partner scheme

COVENTRY City have added non-league club Redditch United to their academy grassroots partner scheme.

The newly-formed partnership comes after City’s under-21s played the Reds in the Birmingham Senior Cup earlier this week.

Coventry will deliver workshops hosted by both Redditch and the Sky Blues.

United will also have regular opportunities to play fixtures against Coventry’s various academy teams.

There will also be a direct line of communication from Redditch to Coventry regarding player identification and recommendations.

Coventry’s head of academy recruitment, Paul Jayes said: “We are delighted to be working with a fantastic football club in Redditch United.

“We are looking forward to working closely with the club and helping offer opportunities to coaches and players developing at Redditch.

“Whilst offering a clear pathway from Redditch United to our academy.”

Redditch’s operations manager, Rory Budge added: “I’m thrilled to have agreed this long-term partnership with Coventry City.

“We have always put a great emphasis on developing our grassroots coaches and providing them with the best platform and support to do what they dedicate huge amounts of their free time to, which is coach.

“The new partnership will provide further coach development opportunities, learning professional coaches at regular CPD events which will naturally benefit their teams and raise the standards of coaching across the junior section.

“Some of our junior teams have already been over to the facilities at the academy to compete against CCFC Academy sides, something we are keen to continue to provide, for our sides to test themselves against academy opposition.

“This, partnered with the regular presence of CCFC scouts at our junior fixtures will provide greater exposure for teams and individuals who are excelling, and hopefully, it can provide a platform for some to progress to academy football.”
