COVENTRY City have confirmed the appointment of first team coach Mark Delaney as the club’s new senior professional development phase coach.
Delaney will now take charge of Coventry’s under-21s side after initially stepping up to become a first team coach at the club in the summer.
The 48-year-old first joined the Sky Blues in September 2023 as lead professional development phase coach to lead the club’s under-18s side.
Delaney made more than 150 appearances for Aston Villa in the Premier League as a player after spells with Carmarthen Town and Cardiff City.
He also won 36 caps for Wales before retiring in 2007 and rejoining Villa as an academy coach in 2008.
Delaney eventually became the club’s senior professional development phase coach for Villa’s under-23s in 2015 and departed the club in 2022.
He also took charge of Villa’s first team which featured only academy players in an FA Cup third round match against Liverpool following an outbreak of Covid the year before his departure.
Delaney worked closely with the first team squad during pre-season before later becoming first team coach as part of a coaching reshuffle at the club.
Following the appointment of Frank Lampard as the club’s new head coach, coaches Joe Edwards and Chris Jones also made the move to the Coventry Building Society Arena.
