FOOTBALL - Coventry City boss Robins anticipates O'Hare departure at end of season

MARK Robins anticipates key midfielder Callum O’Hare will depart the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.

O’Hare played an integral part in the Sky Blues winning the League One title in 2019/20 while on loan from Aston Villa before City made the move permanent the following summer.

The midfielder caught the eye during his first two seasons with the club in the Championship and overcame a long-term injury to rediscover his best form this season.

O’Hare is out of contract this summer and could depart the club along with captain Liam Kelly who both started in Coventry’s final game of the season against Queens Park Rangers.

Robins said: “Callum, everyone is anticipating him moving on and he got an incredible send off as well.

“I said in the dressing room, I’m not going to give up on him yet and we started laughing. I know he will probably choose somewhere else to go, but he has been outstanding.”

“That will be the last game for Liam Kelly. He has been an unbelievable servant, and it was fitting tribute to him and to what he has done and achieved with us.

“He’s been incredible, he’s a top, top person and he has been brilliant on and off the field and I wish him all the best in what he chooses to do next.

“That’s one of the sad things that happens in football season to season.”

Coventry ended the campaign nine points outside of the play-off places and Robins is targeting a quick start to the 2024/25 season to ensure his side can mount a serious top-six challenge.

Robins added: We will build into next season and hopefully we can get off to quicker start than we have done in previous years.

“There are bits to do, and we can see that but there are some really good signs as well.

“We can all recharge for a little spell, I have some work to do, but time for reflection will come in the next few days,

“Overall, the season has been a memorable one, although we are disappointed, this time last year we were in the play-offs and the teams that are in it this year, congratulations to them and the teams that have been promoted.

“I would like to say thanks to the support. They’ve been brilliant all season and they’ve been patient at times which we need.”
