COVENTRY City boss Frank Lampard and forward Brandon Thomas-Asante have won the Championship’s monthly awards for October.

Lampard claimed the division’s manager of the month award while Thomas-Asante scooped the player prize.

The Sky Blues topped the league table throughout October as City picked up 15 points from a possible 18 available.

Lampard said: “I would like to thank all the staff and all the playing squad because you can’t win the individual awards without the hard work of everybody.

“It’s been a really good month and now we need to continue the hard work going forward.”

Championship manager of the month judging panel chair, Danny Wilson added: “What an impact Frank is having at the club.

“Sitting proudly at the top of the Championship, 15 points from a possible 18 and scoring freely with 18 goals.

“A fantastic team to watch as they play with a freedom their manager applauds and encourages.”

Sky Sports EFL pundit, Don Goodman said: “October couldn’t have gone much better for Coventry and Frank Lampard.

“They have taken a commanding lead at the top of the Championship table, after picking up five wins from their six games.

“Lampard looks to have a real connection with his team and the fans, and with them excelling at both ends of the pitch, you have to believe come the end of the season, they’ll be there or thereabouts.”

Sky Bet EFL trader, Ivor Davies added: “Frank Lampard led Coventry through another outstanding month that has firmly established the Sky Blues as promotion favourites.

“Lampard’s influence has been clear to see for over a year now – instilling belief, consistency and control throughout his squad.

“That form has seen Coventry’s odds tumble across the betting markets in recent weeks.

“Having started the month 4/1 for the title and 11/10 for promotion, they’re now just 4/6 to lift the Championship trophy and 1/7 to go up.”

Coventry’s October included dominant away wins against Millwall and Sheffield Wednesday to start the month.

City then beat Blackburn Rovers at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

And victories against Portsmouth and Watford followed as the Sky Blues racked up six successive league wins.

Coventry finished the month with a 3-2 defeat at Wrexham – the club’s only defeat in the Championship this season.

Coventry scored 18 goals across their October fixtures as Lampard’s side turned on the style.

During City’s impressive run of form, Thomas-Asante chipped in with six goals and an assist.

Thomas-Asante said: “I’m super happy to win the October player of the month award.

“It’s something that I’ve wanted to be doing for a while and I’m very happy with how football’s going right now.

“I’m really grateful and appreciative of the moment, playing under the manager, Joe (Edwards) and Chris (Jones) – they’ve been amazing for me in the time we’ve been working together and I’m trying to learn from them and repay the faith that they’ve put in me.

“The performances are only, in my honest opinion, thanks to the support on and off the field from my teammates and I’m really enjoying being part of this amazing squad.

“I feel like that’s been the real change and benefit that I’m enjoying playing with so many top players and people who aren’t just my teammates, they’re my friends.

“The targets I set for myself at the start of the season are high and although I’m happy I’ve met the targets other people had for me, the ones that I’ve got for myself I’m still a long way away from so there’s a lot more work to do.”
