COVENTRY City have completed the purchase of the Coventry Building Society Arena in a landmark moment for the club.
Sky Blues chairman and owner Doug King has bought the stadium from Frasers Group and former Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley.
It marks the first time Coventry have owned the stadium since the ground was built 20 years ago.
The CBS Arena turned 20-years-old this week.
King said: “Today is a defining day for Coventry City Football Club.
“For too long the question of stadium ownership has cast uncertainty over our future.
“By bringing the Arena under the club’s ownership, we are safeguarding not only the present but for future generations.
“This is our home, and it now belongs to the football club and its supporters.
“This is more than a transaction. It is a statement of ambition and belief in Coventry.
“The Arena will always be a symbol of our city’s strength and creativity, and as owners we can invest in facilities, fan experience, and wider opportunities for our community.
“We are proud to finally call this stadium our own.
“On behalf of everyone at the club, I would like to thank our supporters.
“Through years of uncertainty including times when we had to play in other cities and towns, your loyalty has been unwavering.
“This moment is as much yours as it is ours.”
The announcement comes hours before Coventry are due to play Queens Park Rangers at the CBS Arena (3pm kick-off).
The Sky Blues beat QPR 3-0 in the first-ever match at the Arena back in August 2005.
Coventry have endured a tumultuous time on and off the pitch since departing their former Highfield Road home after 106 years in 2005.
A rent dispute between former owners SISU and stadium owners Arena Coventry Limited led to the club playing their home games at Northampton Town’s Sixfields ground for the 2013/14 season.
Coventry returned to the Arena the following campaign only to leave their home city again in 2019.
The club failed to come to an agreement with then Arena landlords Wasps which forced City to groundshare with Birmingham City at St Andrew’s for two seasons.
The Sky Blues have played their home matches at the Arena since the start of the 2021/22 campaign.
However, after Arena landlords Wasps entered administration in October 2022, the club again faced an uncertain future in their home city.
Frasers Group, led by former Newcastle chief Ashley, bought the Arena in November 2022 and issued Coventry with an eviction notice the following month.
However, the club and Frasers Group eventually came to an agreement for City to remain at the Arena.
And Coventry can now finally call the CBS Arena their home after club chairman King completed the purchase of the stadium.
