COVENTRY City claimed a crucial 2-0 win against play-off rivals West Bromwich Albion to edge closer to achieving a top-six finish.
Goals either side of half time from Jack Rudoni and Matt Grimes put the Sky Blues in command before Callum Styles saw red for the Baggies early in the second period at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
And the match took place in front of a record league attendance at the CBS Arena with 31,167 supporters watching on.
The result means Coventry sit sixth in the Championship table, three points clear of the chasing pack with three games left to play.
West Brom went close early on as Will Lankshear redirected a cross from the left onto the top of the crossbar.
However, the Sky Blues broke the deadlock after just six minutes when Rudoni drilled a first time shot past Josh Griffiths from Haji Wright’s low ball in from the left.
City went close to a second goal with Griffiths equal to Wright’s low shot from a tight angle in the box.
And Griffiths then acrobatically tipped Bobby Thomas’s close-range header over the crossbar after good work from Rudoni to keep the ball alive at the back post.
The Sky Blues doubled their lead three minutes after half time when Grimes robbed John Swift of possession inside the West Brom penalty area before coolly finishing past Griffiths.
And West Brom then had Styles sent off on 51 minutes after he picked up a second yellow card after pulling back Tatsuhiro Sakamoto as he attempted to break free down the right.
Coventry are next in action against Plymouth Argyle on Monday, April 21 with kick-off at 3pm at Home Park.
