COVENTRY City ended the season with a disappointing 2-1 home defeat against Queens Park Rangers as the club bid farwell to captain Liam Kelly.
Kelly will leave the Sky Blues at the end of the season having helped City rise from League Two to the brink of the Premier League during his seven years with the club.
However, Kelly departs the club on a losing note after Jamie Allen netted a late consolation following first-half goals from Ilias Chair and Morgan Fox at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
The final day defeat means the Sky Blues finish the Championship season in ninth place, nine points adrift of the play-off places.
QPR broke the deadlock on 33 minutes when Chair drove towards goal before curling a superb effort past Bradley Collins at his near post from 25-yards out.
And Rangers doubled their lead seven minutes later as Fox bundled home Lucas Andersen’s free-kick from close range with Collins unable to keep the ball out.
The Sky Blues eventually halved the deficit with seven minutes left to play when substitute Allen nodded in Haji Wright’s cross from the left at the back post to score his first goal since February last year.
