COVENTRY City ended their six-game winless run in the league with an impressive 3-0 victory away at Millwall.
Matty Godden opened the scoring on the half-hour mark before Tatsuhiro Sakamoto and Ben Sheaf both struck in the second half at The Den.
And the result means the Sky Blues sit 20th in the Championship table, seven points clear of the relegation zone and nine points off the play-off places.
City almost broke the deadlock early on as Josh Eccles played in Haji Wright only for Millwall goalkeeper Bartosz Białkowski to make an excellent save to keep out the striker’s powerful effort.
And the home side then hit the post at the other end as George Honeyman’s looped effort came back off the woodwork.
However, the Sky Blues took the lead on 30 minutes as Godden reacted quickest to head in at the back post after Białkowski denied Wright with his boot following a surging run from Jake Bidwell.
City almost doubled their advantage as Josh Eccles saw his low effort saved before Bradley Collins did well to push George Saville’s shot to safety at the other end.
After the break, Collins tipped Duncan Watmore’s low cross away from goal before Saville curled a shot wide from 20-yards out.
The Sky Blues eventually doubled their lead on 67 minutes as Sakamoto found the bottom left corner after Jamie Allen’s initial effort was saved to become the first-ever Japanese goalscorer for the club.
And City sealed the points on 88 minutes when Sheaf tapped home Eccles’ corner from the left at the back post from a couple of yards out.
Coventry are next in action at home to Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday, November 28 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
