FOOTBALL - Coventry City fans to be in South Stand for remaining home matches

COVENTRY City will continue to house home fans in the South Stand for all of the club’s remaining home matches this season.

Home supporters sat in the South Stand as part of an away end configuration trial against Preston North End in February.

And the club have decided to continue with the trial at the Coventry Building Society Arena for all of City’s remaining home matches.

Away supporters will move to the right corner of the South Stand, housed in blocks six, seven and eight.

This allows Sky Blues supporters to sit in blocks 10 to 12 of the South Stand, also increasing the home capacity for the rest of the campaign.

The club noted supporter feedback and as part of the process reviewed all options regarding the location of the away support.

This includes reversing the configuration with away fans in block 10 to 12 and home fans then in blocks 6,7 and 8.

On review the club decided this option presented several concerns and outlined their reasons to supporters:

  • This would mean an increased segregation as there would be a need for segregation lines either side of the away fans, which would result in a reduction of home tickets. The solution the Club is working to find is a reduced sterile segregation between home and away fans which will help further increase the fantastic atmosphere we have within the Coventry Building Society Arena, but also increase the allocation of home tickets.
  • This would also mean major infrastructure amendments within the stand, concourse, and external areas around the away area. Whilst all options require some form of development, this option would require major development and would result, as noted above, in a reduced capacity. As we are now seeing regular attendances of 24,000, the Club want to ensure that we can provide as many home tickets as possible.
  • The ingress and egress of away supporters would create significate safety challenges around the outside of the stadium.

The club will also continue to evaluate the success of the trial for the South Stand over the coming weeks and, if successful, hope to open the area for season tickers for the 2024/25 campaign.
