COVENTRY City goalkeeper Ben Wilson has received a special community award from the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA).
The PFA and Sky Blues in the Community have awarded Wilson the club’s PFA player in the community award.
The special award recognises Wilson’s work off the pitch and community contribution.
Head of Sky Blues in the Community, David Busst, presented Wilson with the award.
One player from each Football League club receives the special award.
Wilson said: “I am honoured to have been chosen as Coventry City’s community player of the season.
“I feel very grateful to have been considered as it means a lot to me that I am able to give back to the community.
“Putting smiles on the faces of hundreds of people I have managed to spend time with in our local community over the last year, of different ages and backgrounds, is an amazing feeling.
“One of the best bits about these community appearances is that it allows me to help bring people together and inspire them to strive for success in their everyday life.
“I thank you all for not only accepting me, but allowing me to be myself and smile along with you as we take part in these activities together.
“A lot of this is alongside Sky Blues in the Community too, and I have seen first hand the impact their projects have on people.
“I really appreciate being recognised in this way.”
Wilson has been nominated as a player ambassador for Sky Blues in the Community for the last few years.
He also attended one of the club’s disability sessions, covering young people with SEN/behavourial needs, as part of Sky Blues in the Community’s inclusion programme.
Wilson recently became the club’s player ambassador for Coventry’s Disabled Supporters Assoication (DSA).
