COVENTRY City made a winning start to pre-season with a 3-0 victory against League Two side Port Vale.

City handed debuts to summer signings Ephron Mason-Clark, Jack Rudoni and Raphael Borges Rordrigues while Tatsuhiro Sakamoto marked his return from injury at Loughborough University.

The Sky Blues took the lead on 14 minutes when Ellis Simms slotted the ball home after Jamie Allen won back possession deep in the Port Vale half.

City doubled their lead on 74 minutes as Victor Torp released Aidan Dausch and the youngster found Rudoni in the middle who placed a shot under the goalkeeper.

And the Sky Blues struck again six minutes later when Justin Obikwu latched onto a ball over the top from Jack Burroughs and he unleashed a thunderous strike past the Vale goalkeeper from a tight angle.
