COVENTRY City slumped to a disappointing 2-1 home defeat against Swansea City to sit just one point above the relegation zone.
The Sky Blues fell behind to strikes from Liam Cullen and Oli Cooper before Ronald’s own goal kept the Sky Blues in the contest at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
Young striker Norman Bassette hit the crossbar later in the first half, while the referee took the players off the pitch for five minutes in the second period due to thunderstorms.
The result means Coventry sit 19th in the Championship table, one point above the relegation zone.
Swansea took the lead on eight minutes after Mark Robins’ side failed to deal with Matt Grimes’ free-kick and Cullen turned home the loose ball from eight-yards out.
City looked to respond when Brandon Thomas-Asante found Bassette in space as the striker saw his effort from 25-yards out pushed to safety by Lawrence Vigouroux.
However, the Swans doubled their lead on 32 minutes as City failed to close down Cooper who drove into the box and fired a low shot into the bottom left corner.
The Sky Blues halved the deficit two minutes later when Jack Rudoni’s shot from distance deflected into the net off Swansea winger Ronald.
And City almost drew level soon after only for Bassette to head Jake Bidwell’s cross against the crossbar from six-yards out before Vigouroux kept out Rudoni’s follow-up effort.
The visitors almost grabbed a third goal before the break as Ronald’s powerful drive from 15-yards out crashed against the outside of the post.
Chances were at a premium after the interval as Ephron Mason-Clark saw his effort saved by Vigouroux with City unable to find an equaliser.
Coventry are next in action against Leeds United on Saturday, September 28 with kick-off at 3pm at Elland Road.
