COVENTRY City starlet George Shepherd has signed his first professional contract with the club.
The 17-year-old featured on the bench against Blackburn Rovers and Watford in October but is yet to make his first team debut for the Sky Blues.
Shepherd had progressed through the ranks at the Sky Blues featuring for Coventry’s under-21 and under-18 sides.
According to the Daily Mail, Shepherd shunned interest from Arsenal and Manchester United to sign a deal with his hometown club.
Shepherd said: “I’m buzzing to sign my first professional contract.
“I’m a Coventry lad and I can’t wait to get started.
“I want to work hard, get that debut, make a name for myself and do what I’ve always wanted to do which is play for Coventry.”
Sky Blues head coach, Frank Lampard added: “I’m pleased that George has signed his first professional contract.
“He’s impressed me with his training, his work ethic and he’s a really good lad.
“He’s a Coventry fan and a local boy so I’m delighted for him.”
