COVENTRY City suffered a 2-0 defeat against Darmstadt after conceding two second-half goals in their latest pre-season outing.
Goals from Aleksandar Vukotic and Fynn Lakenmacher condemned City to defeat in Germany at Merck-Stadion am Böllenfalltor.
Chances were at a premium in the first half as Josh Eccles saw his effort from distance well-saved by the Darmstadt goalkeeper.
Darmstadt had the ball in the back of the City net just before half time as the assistant referee’s flag ruled the goal out for offside.
The visitors made a bright start in the second period as Milan van Ewijk produced a dangerous low cross which evaded everyone in Sky Blue.
City’s best chance of the match came just past the hour mark when Justin Obikwu and Ephron Mason-Clark combined well to release the latter through on goal only for the Darmstadt keeper to make a crucial save.
Coventry debutant Oliver Dovin then made a smart stop at the other end as he smothered a dangerous cross before it reached the Darmstadt striker.
However, Darmstadt eventually broke the deadlock on 75 minutes when Vukotic powerfully headed home from a corner.
And Darmstadt doubled their six minutes later as Lakenmacher blasted home from close range.
Coventry continue their pre-season campaign at home to Everton on Tuesday, July 30 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
