COVENTRY City lost at home for the first time this season after slipping to a 2-0 defeat against Ipswich Town.
Goals from Jack Clarke and Wes Burns condemned the Sky Blues to a rare defeat at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
Despite the defeat, Coventry remain 10 points clear of Ipswich in third and eight points ahead of closest challengers Middlesbrough.
The game’s first chance fell to Ipswich as Clarke slashed a loose ball inches wide from 15-yards out after the ball broke fortuitously to him in the box.
In a first half of few chances, Sky Blues stopper Carl Rushworth somehow managed to push Jack Taylor’s powerful first time shot from 15-yards out onto the crossbar at full stretch diving to his right to keep the scores level.
Coventry made a bright start to the second period as Christian Walton beat Haji Wright’s deflected shot from 20-yards out to safety.
Rushworth made another superb stop to keep the game goalless when he tipped Ivan Azon’s low strike around the post after Coventry lost possession deep inside their own half.
However, Ipswich took the lead on 72 minutes when Clarke’s shot from inside the box took a cruel deflection off Luke Woolfenden and looped into the net.
And the visitors sealed the points seven minutes from time when substitute Burns rifled a low shot into the bottom left corner from 12-yards out following a counter attack.
