COVENTRY City twice came from behind to draw 2-2 with league leaders Sheffield United in the club’s first home game since the sacking of former boss Mark Robins.
Newly-capped Belgium international Norman Bassette drew City level in the first half before Bobby Thomas netted a second equaliser 10 minutes from time at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
That came after Tyrese Campbell and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi twice put the Blades ahead before the break while United had Anel Ahmedhodzic sent off on 44 minutes following an off-the-ball altercation with Bassette.
And the result means interim Sky Blues boss Rhys Carr has now drawn both of his matches in charge of the club with Coventry yet to announce Robins’ successor.
The Sky Blues made a bright start as Ben Sheaf saw his powerful shot from distance held by Sheffield United goalkeeper Michael Cooper.
However, the visitors broke the deadlock with their first attack on 13 minutes as former Sky Blues favourite Gustavo Hamer released Rak-Sakyi down the right who sent a low ball into the box which Campbell finished from a few yards out.
The Blades almost doubled their lead soon after as Harry Souttar sent a header over the crossbar from a corner.
However, the Sky Blues equalised on 22 minutes when Bassette deflty turned home Josh Eccles’ stunning delivery from the left to score his first goal for the club.
City went close on the half-hour mark as Luis Binks met a corner from the left unmarked at the near post but could not keep his header down.
United reclaimed the lead on 34 minutes when Rak-Sakyi produced a clinical first time finish into the bottom right corner from Hamer’s pass.
A flashpoint arose just one minute before the break with Blades defender Ahmedhodzic shown a straight red card after he pushed Bassette to the ground following a coming together between the two players.
Coventry almost drew level in first-half injury time as Cooper pushed Jay Dasilva’s free header at the back post to safety from Milan van Ewijk’s cross from the right.
And van Ewijk went close to an equaliser after the break as his effort from 20-yards out clipped the outside of the post.
City had the ball in the net later in the half only for substitute Brandon Thomas-Asante to see his effort ruled out for offside.
However, Coventry eventually made their pressure count with 10 minutes left to play when Thomas headed Jack Rudoni’s corner from the right into the left corner of the net after he was left unmarked six-yards from goal.
The Sky Blues had a chance to win the game late on only for Thomas to head over the bar before Cooper held Rudoni’s flicked header in injury time.
