COVENTRY City under-18s shipped eight goals in a heavy 8-1 home defeat against Blackburn Rovers in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup.
The young Sky Blues took an early lead after Success Nidjebu found the net inside the opening few minutes at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
However, Blackburn ran riot thereafter as Rovers scored eight unanswered goals to leave Coventry’s youngsters shell-shocked.
Coventry made the perfect start when Chavvy Nitu-Paka won possession in midfield and played in Ndjebu who fired a low effort into the bottom corner.
However, the visitors equalised two minutes later as Levi Ball scored from the penalty spot after Valentin Joseph drew a foul in the box.
Blackburn completed a quickfire turnaround less than a minute later when Joseph swept home Archie McCoy’s low cross.
And Joseph struck again on 19 minutes as Joseph finished Ball’s cross from close range to double his tally for the game.
Joseph completed his hat-trick five minutes later with a simple finish from Finlay Wilkinson’s square ball,
Rovers added a fifth goal before the break when Igor Tyjon scored from the penalty spot after Joseph was fouled in the area.
Blackburn picked up where they left off after the break as Harvey Pates found the far corner three minutes into the second period.
And the visitors scored a seventh goal on 57 minutes when Joseph found the net via the aid of the post to score his fourth goal of the game.
Rovers completed the scoring on 68 minutes as Michael Decandia headed in McCoy’s corner on a difficult night for the young Sky Blues.
