COVENTRY City under-18s reached the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup with a dominant 4-1 victory against Birmingham City.

A penalty from Alfie Wright put the young Sky Blues ahead only for Louie Rea to draw the visitors level at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

However, Birmingham goalkeeper Alfie Smith saw red early in the second half and Coventry took full advantage of the extra player.

Further goals from Will Russon, Josh Stidder and Kah’Vanni Lincoln sealed Coventry’s place in the fourth round of the competition.

Coventry will play Blackburn Rovers at home in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup.

The Sky Blues broke the deadlock on 17 minutes when Wright scored from the penalty spot after Success Nidjebu drew a foul in the box.

However, Birmingham equalised four minutes later as Rea placed a stunning free-kick into the top corner to bring Blues level.

The home side almost reclaimed the lead later in the first half with Nidjebu unable to beat the Birmingham goalkeeper from George Shepherd’s through ball.

However, Blues stopper Smith received a red card four minutes into the second half after he brought down Lincoln with the Sky Blues youngster through on goal.

And Russon put Coventry back in front from the resulting free-kick as he sent a low effort into the net.

The Sky Blues extended their lead on 70 minutes when Stidder capitalised on a defensive error and punished Birmingham accordingly.

And Lincoln completed the scoring seven minutes into injury time with a finish from close range.
