COVENTRY City under-21s beat Dudley Town on penalties to reach the Birmingham Senior Cup quarter-finals.
A 95th minute screamer from captain Callum Perry took the game to a shootout after a trialist put the young Sky Blues ahead at the Guardian Warehousing Arena.
And City held their nerve in the shootout as Cian Tyler saved two penalties before MacKenzie Stretton fired the Sky Blues into the last eight.
Coventry will play Redditch United in the quarter-finals of the competition with a date for the fixture to be confirmed in due course.
City broke the deadlock after just 10 minutes when a trialist found the net via the aid of a big deflection.
However, Midland Football League Premier Division side Dudley equalised 10 minutes later as Jordan Davies fired a low effort into the bottom corner.
And Dudley completed the turnaround on 32 minutes when Harry Crook’s well-struck shot beat Tyler in the Sky Blues goal.
With City seconds away from exiting the competition, Perry unleashed a stunning strike into the top corner from 30-yards out five minutes into injury time to take the game to penalties.
Sky Blues stopper Tyler saved Dudley’s first penalty as Perry fired home to put City ahead in the shootout.
And Tyler then made another save only for Kai Yearn to see his spot kick saved by the Dudley goalkeeper.
However, Dudley missed with their next attempt and Elliot Betjemann scored to leave the Sky Blues one kick from victory.
Dudley scored their fourth penalty to keep the cup tie alive before Stretton converted to fire City into the quarter-finals.
Coventry City under-21s are next in action against Cardiff City on Friday, February 28 with kick-off at 2pm at Cardiff International Sports Stadium.
