COVENTRY City under-21s suffered a 4-2 home defeat against title-chasing AFC Bournemouth in the Professional Development League.
The young Sky Blues surrendered an early lead after Kai Yearn put City ahead only for the in-form Cherries to draw level before the break.
And two goals early in the second half put Bournemouth in command as Charlie Finney’s strike just past the hour mark kept Coventry in the contest.
However, Bournemouth netted three minutes from time to seal the points and move top of the Professional Development League South standings after securing a 12th successive victory.
Coventry made the perfect start as Yearn fired a stunning effort into the top corner from 18-yards out after just three minutes.
However, Bournemouth equalised on 33 minutes as Remy Rees-Dottin finished through the legs of Sky Blues goalkeeper Daniel Rachel.
And the visitors completed the turnaround on 52 minutes when Dom Sadi lashed a loose ball into the roof of the net after Rachel could only parry Rees-Dottin’s initial effort.
The Cherries extended their lead five minutes later as Daniel Adu-Adjei swept home Archie Harris’s cross six-yards from goal.
Coventry reduced the deficit on 62 minutes when Finney guided Yearn’s cross into the net from close range.
However, Bournemouth made sure of the points on 87 minutes as Ben Winterburn picked out the top corner from just inside the penalty area.
Coventry’s under-21s are next in action against Crewe Alexandra on Thursday, May 1 with kick-off at 1pm at the Alan Higgs Centre.
