FOOTBALL - Coventry City under-21s ease to victory against Sheffield Wednesday

COVENTRY City under-21s beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 to secure back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

Goals from Callum Perry, Elliot Betjemann and Charlie Finney sealed a fine win for Mark Delaney’s side at the Alan Higgs Centre.

The result means Coventry sit seventh in the Professional Development League North table.

City had the game’s first chance as Wednesday goalkeeper Jack Hall kept out Aidan Dausch’s snapshot.

And Hall then denied Kai Yearn after Rylie Siddall’s free-kick deflected into his path.

At the other end, Sky Blues stopper Luke Bell produced a fine save to keep Wednesday at bay.

And Bell made another crucial save to deny the visitors in a one-on-one situation.

However, Coventry broke the deadlock on the half-hour mark as Perry’s stunning free-kick from 25-yards out found the net.

And the young Sky Blues doubled their lead five minutes later when Dausch cut the ball back to Betjemann who tapped home after a superb run from Raphael.

The Owls looked to respond after the break as Bell made another excellent save, keeping out a Wednesday shot from point-blank range.

City spurned a golden chance to seal the points when Raphael drew a foul in the box and the referee pointed to the spot only for Dausch to see his penalty saved by Hall.

However, the Sky Blues eventually made sure of the points as Finney headed in Jayden Smith’s cross.
