COVENTRY City under-21s suffered a heavy 6-2 home defeat against promotion-chasing Burnley.
The young Sky Blues trailed by four goals at the break before Conrad Ambursley and Kai Yearn netted after the break at the Alan Higgs Centre.
And the result means Coventry sit sixth in the Professional Development League North standings.
Burnley raced into a three-goal lead as Kamarni Ryan netted a brace either side of Tommy McDermott’s strike to leave City with a mountain to climb.
And Joe Bauress stretched Burnley’s lead on the stroke of half time to all but seal the points for the Clarets.
The Sky Blues made the perfect start to the second half as Ambursley reduced the deficit two minutes into the second period.
However, Hamzat Balogun restored Burnley’s four-goal lead just one minute later.
City struck again on 65 minutes when Yearn found the net only for Alex Healy-Byrne to complete the scoring for Burnley seven minutes from time.
Coventry’s under-21s are next in action against Fleetwood on Monday, February 17 with kick-off at 11.30am at Poolfoot Farm.
