COVENTRY City under-21s claimed a stunning victory in the Singapore Soccer7sSeries after beating Brazilian giants Corinthians in the final.
The young Sky Blues lifted the men’s open title following a 2-0 victory against Corinthians at the Jalan Besar Stadium.
Goals from Kai Yearn and Tristan Batanwi ensured Coventry came home with the trophy.
City sent a squad of 10 youngsters to the tournament with matches played in a seven-a-side format on a full-size pitch over 15 minutes.
Coventry’s squad comprised of: Oscar Varney, Greg Sandiford, Joshua Gordon, Batanwi, Charlie Finney, Elliot Betjemann, Yearn, Rylie Siddall, Mackenzie Stretton and Joshua Toluwaloju.
The Sky Blues faced Singapore FC, Taichung Rock and Ratchaburi FC in the group stages.
City beat Singapore 2-1 in their opening match with Finney and Yearn on target.
Coventry then drew 1-1 against Taichung as Finney again found the net after City fell behind early on.
And the Sky Blues secured their place in the knockout stages with a 1-0 win against Ratchaburi as an own goal settled the contest.
Coventry then beat Shanghai Shenhua 1-0 in the quarter-finals as Toluwaloju scored the game’s only goal.
And goals from Batanwi and Betjemann then sealed City’s place in the final as the Sky Blues beat Vasco da Gama.
Coventry then saw off Corinthians in the final as Yearn and Batanwi both scored in a 2-0 victory.
Clubs from across Europe, South America and Asia took part in the tournament.
