FOOTBALL - Coventry City's Jay Dasilva targets more international minutes ahead of QPR clash

JAY Dasilva hopes his strong performances for Coventry City will lead to minutes on the international stage with Wales.

Dasilva has played every minute of Coventry’s two league matches this season and became a regular starter following Frank Lampard’s appointment as head coach last term.

The 27-year-old has won three caps for Wales at senior level, after previously representing England more than 50 times at youth level.

And while the full-back remains focused on his form at club level with the Sky Blues, Dasilva hopes to catch the eye of Wales boss Craig Bellamy.

Dasilva said: “I think I finished the season pretty strong, and I was just focused on coming back ready and hopefully picking up where I left off and I think to start the season, I’m happy.

“I’ve put in personally, two decent performances and I think that’s just the main thing for me personally, just keep building and staying consistent with my performances.

“I just focus on club matches, trying to churn out performances and do the best you can and if you do that you can get the opportunity to represent your country.

“The two go hand-in-hand and hopefully I can get more club minutes and more international minutes, that would be good.”

And Dasilva praised the level of competition for places in the Coventry squad ahead of facing the R’s.

Dasilva added: “I approach every game pretty much the same. It’s a bit of a mad league and anyone could beat anyone, so it’s one of those things and you have to approach every game the same and be ready for every game.

“I think it’s always good to have that competition [for places] anywhere you go. I think it helps everyone. It helps not just us in that position, but it helps everyone else in the team.

“It also keeps you ready and wanting to take that opportunity when you do get it, so I think it’s only a good thing for everyone.”

Coventry host QPR on Saturday, August 23 with kick-off at 3pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
