CALLUM Woodward’s penalty all but secured Coventry Sphinx’s league status following a 1-1 draw with 10-man Boldmere St Michaels.
Woodward equalised from the spot on 70 minutes after Owen Parry put Boldmere ahead in the first half at the Sphinx Industrial Supplies Arena.
The result means Sphinx sit 16th in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, three points clear of the relegation zone with one game left to play.
Coventry need just a single point on the final day of the season to secure their place in the division next term and have a far superior goal difference to the teams below them.
Boldmere took the lead on 24 minutes as Adrian Owiredu-Gyamera won the ball on the edge of the Sphinx box before squaring a pass to Owen Parry who had the easiest of finishes.
However, the home side restored parity with 20 minutes left to play when Leo Brown drew a foul in the box and Woodward stepped up to level the game.
And before the restart, Boldmere’s George Washbourne saw red for dissent although Sphinx were unable to find a winner in the remaining minutes.
Coventry finish the season away at Hinckley LRFC on Saturday, April 27 with kick-off at 3pm at Leicester Road Stadium.
