FOOTBALL - Coventry Sphinx battle to draw against rivals Racing Club Warwick

COVENTRY Sphinx ended a run of three straight defeats with a 1-1 draw against rivals Racing Club Warwick.

A diving header from Jordan Hayward drew Sphinx level after Archie Hamp’s goal put the home side ahead at Townsend Meadow.

The result means Coventry sit fifth in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, three points behind leaders Belper Town.

Warwick broke the deadlock on 30 minutes when Hamp continued his fine form in front of goal to put the Racers ahead.

However, Sphinx drew level on 63 minutes as Hayward stopped to nod in Matty Bowman’s header back across goal from six-yards out.

The visitors had Callum Woodward sent off at the death but Sphinx held on to come away with a share of the spoils.

Coventry are next in action against Boldmere St Michaels on Saturday, October 11 with kick-off at 3pm at the Cameron Slater Arena.
