COVENTRY Sphinx claimed an impressive point in a 1-1 home draw against early table-toppers Corby Town.
Sphinx took the lead through Callum Ballinger’s first-half goal only for Fletcher Toll’s penalty to level the game for Corby after the break at the Sphinx Industrial Supplies Arena.
The result means Coventry sit 13th in the Northern Premier League Midlands table.
Coventry broke the deadlock on 19 minutes when Ballinger headed in from close range after Patrick Zito superbly kept Callum Woodward’s corner alive at the back post.
Corby piled on the pressure thereafter and eventually drew level on 55 minutes as Toll scored from the penalty spot after Sphinx goalkeeper Charlie Woods committed a foul in the box.
Sphinx defended well for the remainder of the half to become just the second team to take points off Corby this season.
Coventry are next in action away at Rugby Town on Saturday, October 5 with kick-off at 3pm at Butlin Road.
