DAMIAN Kelly scored a second-half brace as Coventry Sphinx came from two goals down to draw 2-2 against Bourne Town.

Kelly netted twice in the second period to rescue a point for Sphinx at the Cameron Slater Arena.

The result means Sphinx sit 16th in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, four points above the relegation zone.

Bourne made a blistering start and took the lead on nine minutes when Lewis Darlington finished from point-blank range after Robbie Ellis volleyed the ball across the six-yard box.

And the visitors doubled their lead three minutes later as Ellis’s volley from six-yards out proved too strong for Sphinx goalkeeper Oliver Bosworth who could not prevent the ball from crossing the line.

Sphinx halved the deficit on 53 minutes when Kelly volleyed in a cross from the left from inside the six-yard box.

And the home side equalised on 76 minutes as Kelly scored from the penalty spot after the Bourne goalkeeper obstructed a Sphinx player in the box.

Coventry are next in action against AFC Rushden and Diamonds on Tuesday, March 10 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Hayden Road.
