COVENTRY Sphinx eased into the next round of the FA Cup with a 3-0 victory against Dudley Town.
Goals from Jordan Hayward, Kyle Carey and Matty Shipman secured Sphinx’s place in First Round Qualifying at the Cameron Slater Arena.
The victory means Coventry have progressed past the Preliminary Round of the competition for the first time in five years.
Sphinx broke the deadlock on the half-hour mark when Carey drove towards the Dudley penalty area from inside his own half and slipped in Hayward who finished through the legs of Tom Carter.
And the home side doubled their lead on 63 minutes as Carey’s effort from distance bounced beyond the reach of Dudley goalkeeper Carter.
Sphinx sealed their place in the next round on 77 minutes when Shipman saw his effort from 15-yards out deflect past a helpless Carter.
Coventry are next in action against Coleshill Town on Tuesday, August 19 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Cameron Slater Arena.
